Our How to use a Sewing Machine workshop is for new machine owners and sewers who want to get more from their machine.
If you don’t have a machine yet you can use one of our demonstration machines to find out more before you buy.

Explore the basics of the sewing machine

The session will cover:
How to choose the right sewing thread, machine needles and bottom bobbin
Stitch length
Debunk the tension dial
Stitching in straight lines and curves
Discover what those funny looking presser feet are for
Play with the decorative stitches.

Now feeling confident with your machine stitch a perfect buttonhole

Your machine must be in working order and have a current PAT certificate. If you need help with this please contact us before booking the session.

  • To secure a place on the course fees are payable in advance. Unpaid for bookings will not be held.

  • Your sewing machine must be in full working order. Please contact us before booking the session if you need help with this.
  • Jane White Couture Tuition cannot be responsible for student’s internet connection to join or during the course. In the event of an internet outage at our end an alternative date will be offered.
  • The course information is an outline. The amount of work completed during the session will depend on your pre-existing skills and pace of work.

I just wanted to say thank you for a brilliant session. I came home with a lot more confidence to have a go at doing more sewing. I have now finished making a Christmas tree skirt, a project which has lived in the loft for at least ten years. I am really pleased with it and the family joke is now over!
