New dressmaking Naj, decided to study design and construction skills by undertaking the City & Guilds Fashion level one course.
Using The Ropewalk as a design inspiration source, Naj designed a range of skirt ideas. Drafting a skirt block and pattern and constructing a toile enabled Naj to plan and sample the construction process and get a great fit.
Constructed in denim, Naj sampled lots of pocket shapes and decorative ideas and decided she liked the combination of buttonholes and outsized buttons. The contrasting red thread brings the whole design to life.
Naj says she has learnt lots of new skills, looks at colour and design completely differently and is keen to add stylish detail to her other sewing projects.
A strong portfolio of work and an exciting garment has gained Naj a City & Guilds Fashion distinction! Well done.
